This is a series of virtual events exploring industry trends and best practice on a range of topics of direct relevance to our journal editors and editorial office staff.

Commissioning and inviting content is a key editorial activity that can serve many aims: attracting new and diverse author groups, broadening reach or scope, and increasing output while maintaining high quality thresholds. Join fellow OUP journal Editors and Editorial Team members to learn about how they’ve approached commissioning for their journals. There will be time for questions and discussion after the case study presentations.

Nan is the Senior Features Editor for The Plant Cell at the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB). She earned a Ph.D. in plant physiology at Penn State University and carried out postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois, Oxford University (UK), and Penn State, focusing on photosynthesis and plant response to abiotic stress. Nan loves language and writing almost as much as plant biology, so an editorial position with The Plant Cell was a perfect fit. Nan assists the editorial board as a Senior Editor handling submissions of research articles, manages The Plant Cell assistant features editor program, handles peer review of review articles and letters, helps plan focus issues and content, and oversees the scientific editing of accepted manuscripts.

Petra Goedde is Professor of History at Temple University and editor of the journal Diplomatic History. Her research interests are in U.S. foreign relations, transnational, culture, and gender history. She has published widely on Cold War history, the history of cultural globalization, human rights, and gender in foreign relations history, among them GIs and Germans: Culture, Gender, and Foreign Relations, 1945-1949 (Yale 2003); The Politics of Peace: A Global Cold War History (Oxford 2019); and most recently with Akira Iriye, International History: A Cultural Approach (Bloomsbury Press 2022).
