Writing, unlike speaking, is not an ability we acquire naturally, even in our first language - it must be taught. Effective writing skills include skills beyond the basics of grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. This can include understanding the writing prompts and its objectives, forming ideas, and organizing logical structure.
In our session, we will explore the fundamentals of the writing process with teenage language learners, and how this process can be taught. This process will include recognizing various writing styles and their goals, analyzing useful information, creating and sharing ideas, and organizing a logical written response. Special attention will be given to helping students with ‘opinion’ and ‘for and against’ essays, as this is an area that new writers often struggle with. Participants in this webinar will learn how they can help support their learners by simplifying the writing process to improve writing development and results.
