* Session 1: Small-Scale CLIL for Big Impact (9:45 - 10:45 VNT)

Aligned with the theme Being a “Future-ready” teacher, this workshop explores practical and achievable ways to implement Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) in Vietnamese secondary school English classrooms. Rather than adding curricular burden, CLIL is presented as a flexible approach that integrates subject-related content into existing textbook lessons. Using familiar topics, the session demonstrates classroom-ready tasks that combine content learning with purposeful language use, particularly in speaking, vocabulary development, and short presentations. Emphasizing hands-on task design over theory, the workshop equips teachers with adaptable CLIL activities that enhance learner engagement, confidence, and future-ready communication skills.

When students move from primary to secondary level, the novelty of learning and school can be lost. It is also an age when students begin to know what they do and do not like, so some may feel English is not something they like.
Join me to consider how instead of verb and vocabulary lists to learn, we can engage even the students who do not feel good at English. I’ll be outlining how CLIL can make your students curious about English language; how it can provide students with the tools to use language about what they are interested in; and how it can provide them with important life-long learning skills that prepare them for a secondary level education and beyond.
